Back Cover copy

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Ok, this is the text I’ll probably put on the back cover of the book. I’d love to get some comments on this! Thanks :)

From mind numbing boredom one moment to being absolutely scared to death the next…

Life at sea is always interesting!

The men and women of the Navy’s HC-5 “Providers”, Detachment 4, while deployed on the T-AE-26 Kilauea, set records, got awards, and had some fun too!

Start with helicopters hovering with explosive cargo, mix in some truly lunatic fork lift drivers, maybe grab a couple hours of sleep, if you’re lucky, have some great food and terrible coffee, grab your Walkman and your gas mask, we’ll enjoy surreal sunsets, and oh yeah, don’t forget we’re in a War Zone!

Its an Adventure, just like the Navy promised!

Told from the perspective of an aircraft mechanic who was just doing his best to hold things together, you’ll feel the salt spray on your face as the rotor wash threatens to blow you over the edge.

If you’ve ever wondered what its really like, this just might save you a 4 year enlistment!

This book is dedicated to all the people back home, who wrote the letters and let us know they hadn’t forgotten us.

Thank you. You have no idea how much it meant to get mail.

Updates and Stuff :)

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Ok, first off, I will eventually get all my stuff together in one place, but so far its spread all over the place.
http://carlincomm.com is my “hub” site, which has links to all my projects. Desert Storm Diaries was originally a Blogger Blog, which I then hosted on my old website. I’ll probably drag some of those posts over here, but in the mean time, here’s a link to that!

Original Desert Storm Diaries Blog is here

So, with that house keeping out of the way, I may not have mentioned that my Fantastic Editor, Tina McAllister recently got me my first edited version of my book back to me. Oh wow, how exciting is that! Now I get to read through her changes and questioning notes to see if I said what I really meant to say, and if anyone else besides me can understand it! So I’ll be doing some updates there.

With that said, though, we’re still looking good for publishing late March / early April. I am very excited :)

Stay Tuned!

Looking for people to write some reviews of the book

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

So, here’s the deal. The book is way into editing now. Life is good. I’m hoping for a big launch where I have lots of people just dying to read the book. We can all hope right?

Anyway, something that I really need is some early reviews, people who are excited enough about the book to want to read it now, before its published. What I can do is send you a pre release PDF document. This is the “as I wrote it” version, not the edited version.

In exchange for you reading it, and writing up a fabulous review raving about how great the book is (no, really, that would be great!) I will send you a copy of the book when its printed, I’ll even autograph it. And I’ll give it to you at my cost. Maybe even cheaper than my cost. I’m hoping to keep it down around $5 a copy or so, so its not going to be a big deal. I might just give it to you but lets see how good the review is ok?

So, email me at storm.diary@gmail.com and I’ll email you a copy of the book.

Pretty sweet deal right?

Thanks for reading!
