Some photos I took during my deployment to Desert Storm, on board the USNS Kilauea (T-AE-26). I was a H-46 Sea Knight helo mechanic, and during the war I kept a diary, as well as writing letters back to the people who wrote to “Any Service Member”. I’ve recently wrote a book based on my experiences on that deployment, for more information, or to order a copy, please go to this website. http://carlincomm.com/desertstormdiaries/?p=67

H-46 VERT-REP Footage, from YouTube ;)
Saturday, March 14th, 2009
Sadly, I have no video of my own, I didn’t have a video camera with me during Desert Storm. But that’s ok, We do have YouTube! Here’s a pretty good sequence of clips here, shows basic H-46 doing VERT-REP, which is Vertical Replenishment, where they hang cargo in nets under the helo to move between ships. Fun stuff indeed, we used to do that for hours at a time, day, night, rain, snow, kind of like the Post Office right?
I wanted to show you the letters I got…
Sunday, February 22nd, 2009I was scanning some of the letters that I got during Desert Storm to use in the book, and I thought it would be fun to share some of them with you!
I actually had the camera running for over 3 hours, and managed to cut it down to about an hour to share with you. If you really want to see everything, I uploaded the whole 3 hours as MP4 files so you can Download MP4 Clips here.
If your computer doesn’t have a player to play these *.mp4 files, I highly recommend VideoLAN’s VLC player. Free download, it plays just about everything out there, including M2T HD video clips. And its free
Apple’s QuickTime will also work. If you want that, I’ll let you go find that yourself
ha ha
These clips were all shot the same day, there is about 3 hours in total, I cut them to around 30 minutes long.
